There Is NO Sign Of Mater In The Second ‘Cars 3’ Teaser Trailer

Start your engines, because Pixar and Disney just unleashed a brand new trailer for Cars 3 and it actually looks pretty great.

Here is the synopsis

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez (voice of Cristela Alonzo), with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage

While the first 30 seconds or so is just the teaser all over again, the later half of the trailer is a great look at what we can expect from the second sequel in the Cars franchise. I’m loving what we are seeing! It’s almost a Rocky Balboa story, of a has-been going into the ring (in this case, the raceway) for one last bout to prove their worth.

The best thing about this trailer is there is no sign of the annoying sidekick Mater. John Lasseter must have come to his senses and realised that kids don’t want bumbling idiots in their leads, they want smart characters that they can look up to! While I’m sure he’ll appear in the movie, I’m just hoping it will be a cameo of sorts.

CARS 3 speeds into cinemas June 15 in Australia and June 16 in the US.
