LIGHTS OUT TRAILER – BE AFRAID OF THE DARK

Warner Bros has released the trailer for the newest movie that’s going to haunt your nightmares Lights Out, starring Aussie Teresa Palmer and Maria BelloStop reading now, and go and creep yourself out for a couple of minutes… I’ll wait.

Right, well I won’t be sleeping tonight. The tagline says it all really, “You were right to be afraid of the dark”. I’m not a massive horror movie guy to be perfectly honest, but I do prefer the ghostly tales to the torture porn route a lot of horror movies have taken in recent years. Give me a good jump scare, and I’ll lift two metres of my seat every time, and this seems like it’ll do just that. I feel sorry for the person that sees this with me.

Even though I’m an easy target, jump scares don’t make a movie, and so I hope that there’s an interesting story-line and the holy grail for horror movies – a decent ending to go along with it. I do like the fact that it’s the mother that has the connection to the entity in this one, as opposed to the regular horrifyingly precocious kid. That’s refreshing.

Here’s the official synopsis:

When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was and wasn’t real when the lights went out…and now her little brother, Martin, is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. A frightening entity with a mysterious attachment to their mother, Sophie, has reemerged. But this time, as Rebecca gets closer to unlocking the truth, there is no denying that all their lives are in danger…once the lights go out.

James Wan, director of Saw and The Conjuring, is ushering this one as a producer, and it’s directed by first-timer David F. Sandberg who’s handling the adaptation of his own short film, which is also very chilling, so I’ve embedded it below:

LIGHTS OUT darkens cinemas on July 21.
