The First Trailer For ‘Coco’ Will Remind You Why You Love Pixar

With the success many rival studios have been having lately, it’s become increasingly commonplace to proclaim Pixar’s dominance of the animation genre has all but come to an end. But as this first glimpse of their new original creation Coco reminds us, you should never underestimate the power of Pixar.

Check it out above! The animation on display looks gorgeously rendered as always, but what impresses most for a trailer that clocks in at just over two minutes is the way it tugs at your heart strings. Inside Out featured one of Pixar’s more ‘out there’ premises, but delivered one of its most emotionally rich stories, and Coco looks to be covering similar creative ground.

Director Lee Unkrich has been working on the project ever since finishing Toy Story 3 back in 2010, so you know he’s poured his heart and soul into the film. If a fraction of that passion translates to the screen, we should be in for another delicious Pixar treat.

The (intriguing) official synopsis goes a little something like this…

Despite his family’s generation-old ban on music, Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the Land of the Dead. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (Gael García Bernal) and together they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.

Coco hits Australian cinemas on November 22
