Daisy Ridley To Take On Tomb Raider?

After breaking onto the world stage in a massive way in a quiet little indie film called Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, Daisy Ridley would presumably be at the top of every casting director’s list right? Well now we have the first murmurs about what her first non-Star Wars related project could be, and it’s an interesting one. Deadline is reporting that she on the shortlist for the reboot of Warner Bros. and MGM’s Tomb Raider franchise.daisy-ridley-rey-star-warsTomb Raider, a reboot of the video game adaptations starring Angelina Jolie, would see a younger version of the Lara Croft character take on her first archaeological expeditions. I’d dare say that evil plots would be uncovered, and bad guys would be dispatched and/or foiled along the way also. This mirrors the reboot of the Tomb Raider video game franchise in 2013. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Ridley confirmed that there “have been conversations” about her donning the khaki shorts, but there hadn’t been a formal offer. “I’m waiting for someone to say ‘I want you, let’s do it,’” she said. I think Ridley would be a solid choice to play the globe-trotting hero, she certainly showed the action chops in Force Awakens, and as a native Brit we would be spared the sometimes dodgy accents that happen when Americans play British.

The new Tomb Raider will be scripted by Geneva Robertson-Dworet, and directed by the awesomely named Norwegian director Roar Uthaug. It is eyed for release in 2017.
